Quiet Bird Consulting
Founded in
July, 2002, Quiet Bird Consulting utilized over 25 years of technology
design experience of its president, Dan Nessett. Dan’s skills
covered all aspects of networking and distributed systems (except the
physical layer). A detailed accounting of his technology work is found in
his resume.
His patents and publications catalog some of the original
work he produced during his career. Quiet Bird Consulting is no longer an
active enterprise. Dan decided to retire in 2004 in order to pursue
personal interests (musical composition and physics).
Some papers
referenced in patents and
publications are available here:
Commercially Viable Active Networking – this
paper appeared in the January 2002 issue of Operating Systems Review.
Massively Distributed Systems – this paper
appeared in the Proceedings of the 1999 Usenix
Workshop on Embedded Systems.
Multilayer Firewall – this paper appeared in the
Proceedings of the 1998 ISOC Network and Distributed System Security
Symposium.
802.11 Point-to-point Link in an Urban Environment
– this report discusses a volunteer project undertaken by Dan
Nessett at HCJB in Quito, Ecuador. The project investigated the use of
off-the-shelf 802.11 equipment to implement a point-to-point link in an
environment characterized by severe signal multi-path
and absorption.
